Biomedica Jan ;14:53-5.

A 15 years old Afghan boy resident of Kuchlak, District Quetta, presented with pain right hypochondrium and mass right hypochondrium for 2 months. The clinical examination revealed that the margin of the mass could be palpated in the right hypochondrium but peripheral lymphadenopathy was absent, and no enlarged hilar or mediastinal lymph nodes could be detected on x-ray of chest. Abdominal ultrasonographic examination of the upper abdomen showed a mass involving gall bladder. Other routine laboratory examinations were unremarkable with normal hematological parameters. On laparotomy the mesenteric lymph nodes were found slightly enlarged. The mass was found in gall bladder. Cholecystectomy was performed.

The size of gall bladder was 12x5x5 cm. Outer surface was mainly smooth with a nodular area. On opening the lumen showed a mass with multiple polypoid projections measuring 10x4x3 cm. Sectional surface of the mass was greyish white, homogenous and fleshy.

The histological diagnosis of diffuse non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma intermediate grade mixed large and small cell type was made. Post-operative recovery was uneventful. The patient returned home after further medical care and was lost to follow up for 2 months. Later on he died due to diffuse abdominal involvement.
