Obesity - I: Re-conceptualization.
Med Today Jan ;1(1):19-21.

Obesity has been thought to be a behavioral disorder that resulted from over eating or exercising too little. However, studies have suggested that body weight is under substantial genetic control. As a result, the attitude towards obesity is changing with the development of empathy for overweight individuals, as well as to a change in the goals of obesity treatment. Regardless of the cause of the obesity, the medical evaluation should include a careful examination for common consequences of obesity, and physicians should continue to encourage their obese patients to lose weight and offer appropriate support and advice.
