An audit of homicide in Karachi from 1996 - 2001.

Objective: To observe the homicidal cases in Karachi in relation to its different districts & weapon used during the act of homicide. Study Design: Descriptive case study. Setting: It is a retrospective study of 6 years from 1996-2001. Data is collected from all districts of Karachi & then analyzed. Material & Method: Total cases of 3700 were reported in all districts of Karachi during 1996-2001.Variation during these 6 years & distribution of cases in different districts of Karachi were observed & analyzed. During 1997 & 1998 a sharp rise in homicidal cases was recorded in all the districts of Karachi. Conclusion: On analysis of our data it is noted that there is a rise in homicidal rate in all districts of Karachi during the year 1997 & 1998. District East had highest homicidal rate during 6 years 164/yr. District Malir has lowest homicidal rate during 6years 80/yr. Use of Firearms was highest in District East 91%. Use of Firearms was lowest in District Central 70%.
