Glyceryl Trinitrate for treatment of Preterm Labour

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of glyceryl trinitrate this observational study was done at Jinnah Hospital Lahore. Seventy women with preterm labour were treated with glyceryl trinitrate dermal patches and labour was arrested in 63 (90%). 24 (30%) were primigravidae and majority (80%) belonged to the poor soci-economic section. Mean Prolongation of pregnancy was 19 days. Side effects reported were headache in 9 (12%) and palpitations in 4 (5%) women. Glyceryl trinitrate patches are effective and safe for treatment of preterm labour.
