PakMediNet Discussion Forum : Medical Research in Pakistan : CIVILIAN DOCTORS CADRES AND NON PRACTICE ALLOWANCE
Reseach can not be carried out just to keep the names alive. To survive doctors need good financial support in Pakistan, otherwise all brain would drain as had been in past. In order to keep future hopes alive the researchers must be encouraged both morally and financially.
Civilian doctors sever more for humanity than army doctors and yet get only Rs.500/- and month as NPA while Army doctors get more than 6000/- per month in this head.
Save future of pakistani doctors otherwise world is ready to welcome them

I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE SAID BUT BEING AN ARMY DOCTOR LET ME CLARIFY THE NPA. CAPT AND MAJORS GET 4,000. COLONEL 5,000 AND BRIGADIERS AND ABOVE 6,000 AND THAT IS THE LIMIT. BUT THEN THEY HAVE TO SERVE AT HEIGHTS OF 20,000 FEETS IN NORTHERN AREAS IN 20-30 FEETS OF SNOW ,WITH NO ELECTRICITY, LIVING IN TENTS FOR MONTHS AT A STRETCH.OR IN THE DESRERTS OF SINDH AND BALOCHISTAN WHERE NO OTHER DOCTOR WANTS TO SERVE
THEY DONT SPEND THEIR WHOLE LIVES SITTING IN PINDI AND LAHORE AT THE SAME PLACE , MAKING CARRIERS AND STUDYING. PLEASE DONT START A DEBATE ON WHOSE SERVING THE NATION BETTER.... EVERY BODY IS DOING A GOOD JOB AND WE SHOULD APPRECIATE THE GOOD WORK......

I have to agree with Dr Rathore , I believe Pakistan Army and its Doctors are the Best. this is the only Army in the world which can work wonders like Making one country into 2. It is the only army in the world which invades its own country every five years and generates pseudo issues to fight to keep their jobs intact.Secondly though we have almost lost all wars with our neighbouring country but still we are the best no matter what anybody says.
In the govt hospitals who render treatment to millions of ppl there may not be even a 10% of drugs and facilities but these CMH will have everything. If pakistan had invested money into education and health we would be standing with korea and china but now we are standing with countries like Ghana and somalia and ppl pnly ridicule our name in the world because we invested money in army and arms .

DEAR DR IJAZ
I THINK YOU GOT CARRIED AWAY......I NEVER CLAIMED THAT ARMY DOCTORS ARE THE BEST AND I DONT INTEND TO DO SO....AS FAR AS MENTIONING OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU BUT LET ME TELL YOU WE DOCTORS ARE TREATED IN THE SAME WAY BOTH IN ARMY AND IN CIVIL.....IN CIVIL BY POLITICIANS,BEAURUCRATS.. AND IN ARMY BY SENIOR OFFICERS
AND AS FAR AS YOUR COMMENTS ON FUND ALLOCATION IS CONCERNED LET ME CLAIM WITH ABSOLUTE RESPONSIBILITY....WHAT EVER MEDICINES MY BROTHER WORKING IN PIMS CAN ADVICE AS AN MO... FOR THE SAME MEDICINES MY CONSULTANT HAS TO GET SANCTION THROUGH 02 CHANNELS.... AND STILL YOU WONDR WHERE DO THE FUNDS GO

I WONDER HOW PAKISTANIS LIVE IN BLOODY CIVILIAN SETUP, ARMY GIVES THEM 30% OF BUDGET AND KEEPS KEY POSTS ALONG WITH 70% MONEY TO ITSELF EVEN PRESIDENTSHIP. I STILL WONDER WHY ALL ROADS OF CANT AREA are NOT MADE OF GLASS. AND WHY BLOODY CIVILIAN PASS BY CANT AREA. AS DEVELOPMENT IS WHERE MONEY IS.
LONG LIVE PAKISTAN ARMY ON PAKISTAN.
LONG LIVE DICTATORSHIP.
WORLD'S BEST ARMY IS PAKISTAN WHO CONQUERED A COUNTRY FOUR TIMES.
WORLDS BEST ARMY MEN BORN TO RULE.

That..my friend is SO true..why are you comparing urself with PIMS?PimS is a hellhole anyway...for that matter...if we had that kinda money we'd have built the best cardiac centre in asia...but nooooooooo..all of it goes to the hospitals in pindi cantt..cuz those are the hospitals that serve the 'humans'..the rest r for the civilians...

come on people..... it is really bad to see when doctors get carried away in emotionalism.... i 100 % agree with what you people have written but as it is said" SOME SOUL SEARCHING IS NEEDED BEFORE WE GET SOME ANSWERS".... any way keep this forum alive by lively discussions, scintific issues rather than these civilian doctors VS army doctors discussions........i love you all people out there cuz i am my self a civilains for the last 10 generations and getting into uniform was by chance rather by choice....

the pays and other facilities of all the employees including doctors should be comparable in all the civil and army departments and those working in farflung areas should be compensated. a civil doctor working in desert or border areas face the same problems as army doctors, rather the civil doctors work in pathetic conditions. it is shameful on part of our government

salamz. Me Dr Noman from karachi.. i am in finals of MBBS. i m in dilemma either to choose army or be a civilian doc. i want to do fellowship in plastic surgery. want to know from you that when could i really be allowed by army to do fellowship.

Dear Noman
Assalam o allaikum
I would suggest that you should peruse a career on civil side if you are really interested in achieving academic excellence.
If you get commission in Army you will have to serve three years before you can appear in Part I, then atleast one year more to start your training in General Surgery ( there is NO provision of directly starting sub specialty training like plastic surgery).
After you have done your four years surgery training and cleared all your exams in first attempt. You will again take an Army exam for sub specialty training in Plastic surgery after two years. The training itself is of two years.
In short it would be atleast 10 years from your date of commission before you can become a Plastic surgeon.
Col (Ret) Mamoon Rashid, one of the best Plastic surgeons of Pakistan is nowadays working in Shifa Hospital Islamabad and can guide you even better
Best of luck

Keeping in view the current inflation, NPA for all Civilian and Army Doctors should be raised to minimum 25000 per month.

I think a good and reasonable service structure for doctors(civilians)and an increase in health budget will improve the health system and plight of poor patients and doctors will come to an end. as an example see NHS in UK and health syatem in the GULF countries
best regards,
