Antioxidant vitamins and cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular disease is a collection of diseases having different risk factors. The present study includes seventy cardiovascular patients and thirty controls. The patients were divided into diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Level of alpha-tocopherol, retinol, beta-carotene and ascorbic acid were statistically lower in the diabetic patients as compared to non-diabetic subjects and control subjects. The patients were further grouped as heart attack patients and the patients suffering from angina. Again non-diabetic subjects of both groups had shown higher levels of beta-carotene, alpha tocopherol, ascorbic acid and retinol as compared to diabetic patients.
