Clinical characteristics and outcome of treatment of Children with Wilm`s Tumour.
Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;47(2):8-11.

Although Wilm`s tumour is being treated at several centers in the country there is as yet a need to optimise treatment for patients in our own peculiar psycho-soclo-economic stratum. By treating patients according to uniform treatment protocols and compiling objective results of treatment it may become possible to compare treatment protocols and standardise treatment for our patients. Twelve patients with Wilm`s tumour were registered at the Paediatric Oncology Unit of CMH Rawalpindi over a period of 2 years. The clinical course of each patient was prospectively followed and recorded while they were being treated. Patients are regularly being followed up after completion of treatment for short and long term effects of treatment and for evidence of recurrence. The observation period of these patients now ranges from 7 months to 30 months. One patient was lost to follow after 7 weeks of postoperative chemotherapy. Eleven patients are alive with no adverse events. Toxicity of the treatment has been controllable and mild. Compliance was satisfactory and it seemed that the protocol of treatment used was practical and efficacious with no major toxic effects. The number of patients in the series was small and the duration of follow up was short. Evaluation will continue in order to make a statistically significant report.
