Carcinoma of the gall bladder is a progressive malignant disorder with a poor and painful prognosis and a high mortality rate. Our report highlights the enhanced presentation of the carcinoma of gallbladder in patients having cholecystectomy in a general surgical ward, and its possible. etiological factors in the population of Pakistan in general and Punjab in particular. This .is a retrospective nonanalytical study in which case records and histopathology reports of 100 patients who underwent cholecystectomy was studied, with the objective to determine the incidence of cancer of gall bladder and highlight the possible etiological factors. 89% of the study group were females and 11% males. Cancer of gall bladder among the 100 patients was 12%; the highest yet reported in literature and it was seen that it was more common in females (10%) who are relatively quite young in age. The etiological factors held responsible were the unmistakable association of gall stones, the delayed treatment, repeated attacks of cholecystitis, multiparity, congenital abnormalities of biliary tract infections of the biliary system, Polyps of the Gall Bladder and Mirrizi syndrome, The incdence of the Gall Bladder cancer is very high in our population. A number of possible etiological factors have been highlighted and the bulk of them can be prevented.or controlled.
