J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;10(6):200-3.

A prospective study on the `clinical presentation of ectopic pregnancy`, was conducted in Gynae Unit I of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department of Nishtar Hospital, Multan from March, 1994 to March, 1996. Twenty patients were included in the study group on the basis of clinical presentation of amenorrhoea, symptoms of pregnancy, lower abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding along with signs of pelvic mass and tenderness. Diagnostic aids included beta HCG level, pelvic ultrasonography and laparoscopy. Results showed 15 cases of chronic ectopic pregnancy, two cases were of PID, while fibroid uterus, ovarian cyst and endometriosis was seen in one case each. The clinical diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy is documented to be correct in less than 50% cases. The proper choice and combination of diagnostic modalities to arrive at an accurate and early diagnosis provides an invaluable aid.
