Detection Of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy In Hypertension By Echocardiography Vs Electrocardiography.
Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;45(2):47-50.

This study compared the left ventricular mass derived from echocardiographic measurements with different electrocardiographic criteria of left ventricular hypertrophy in 76 hypertensive patients. The left ventricular mass was determined echocardiographically by using techniques recommended by American Society of Echocardiography. This was compared with various electrocardiographic methods of detecting left ventricular hypertrophy. The electrocardiogram was found to be insensitive though highly specific in detection of left ventricular hypertrophy. It is concluded that the electrocardiogram may be unreliable in the detection of. left ventricular hypertrophy and echocardiography should be used in preference to electrocardiography to determine left ventricular mass in hypertensive patients.
