Factors and determinants influencing polio coverage during national immunization days in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Background: Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease that causes deformity and disability; hence affects quality of life and productivity. Since preventable, enormous efforts are directed to eliminate Polio from the world; yet however, Polio is still endemic in few countries including Pakistan. For eradication of Polio, an understanding of the polio vaccination services and community\'s perceptions about immunization is crucial. The current paper aims to describe factors and determinants influencing coverage during NIDs in Islamabad, Pakistan. Methods: Study used mixed methodology: cross-sectional survey of households (n=369), structured observations of fixed (n=6) and mobile (n=13) NID facilities, interviews of EPI planners (n=5) and implementers (n=12) and FGDs of community leaders and mothers (n=6).
