Association of fasting blood glucose level with central obesity in pre and post menopausal middle aged women.
Rawal Med J Jan ;37(1):21-3.

Objective: To study fasting blood glucose levels in relation with Waist to hip ratio (WHR) and to compare central obesity in pre and post menopausal women for risk of development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Subjects and Method: Fasting blood glucose levels were estimated in 100 asymptomatic middle aged women. WHR was derived using waist circumference and hip circumference. Correlation of Fasting blood glucose levels with WHR was determined between pre and post menopausal women by using analysis of variance. Result: A statistically significant difference of age and Fasting Blood Glucose was found between pre and post menopausal women. But there is no statistically significant difference of WHR was found between pre and post menopausal women. Conclusion: Central obesity is common in both pre and post-menopausal women i.e. menopausal status may not be correlated with central obesity. It is advocated that early life style modifications be instituted in premenopausal age to reduce the risk of development of type 2 diabetes mellitus in middle aged women.
