Comparative study of operative treatment of Colles fracture Frykman's type I&II, with or without use of bone grafts.

Objective: To assess outcome in Colle's fracture with and without bone grafts. Study Design: It was a prospective, comparative study. Place and Duration of Study: In 2007 at Department of Orthopaedics, Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. Material and Methods: Sixty patients were included and treated in two groups. One group was treated with and other without addition of bone graft at the time of bone fixation with A-wires. Results: Average anesthesia time in Group-I was about 30.75 minutes and operative time was about 20.5 minutes. In group-II average anesthesia time was about 39.5 minutes and operative time was about 32.5 minutes. Average hospital stay in group I was 1 day and in group II was 2 days. All healed well eventually. Dorsal angulation and range of motion did not differ significantly on follow up. Conclusions: Treatment of Frykman's type I and II can be done with A-wires with and without the use of bone graft without significant morbidity.
