J Pak Orthop Assoc Jan ;22(2):108-13.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical results of bone grafting with bone substitute (TCP) in long bone defects and cavities in patients with large osteolytic defects like benign and malignant tumors. Place and Duration of Study: Rawalpindi Medical College, DHQ Hospital, Rawalpindi from 2007-2010 Patients and Methods: 14 cases of bone tumors, bone cyst , Non Unions and fibrous dysplasia treated with autologous bone graft and bone substitute TCM calcium phosphate porous material In all cases good solid new bone formation and 100 %. union achieved in 6 months to 1 year after surgery. Results: 14 cases treated to fill the gap had good new bone formation within six months to one year after surgery, not a single case reported to have a major surgical complication seen during the study. Augmentation of bone graft with bone substitute enhances the rate of union and helps in filling the large gaps and cavities in long bones. Conclusion: Tri calcium phosphate when used in in combination with auto graft taken from corticocancelllous part of iliac crest not only enhances the solid union but also fill the large cavities in long bones with new bone formation.
