Interlocking nail for long bone fractures.
Fauji Found Health J Jan ;2-1:14-6.

Forty (40) cases of fracture shaft of femur treated by interlocking nail, aged seventeen years to seventy years were studied retrospectively. Two patients with pathological fractures died after sixteen and twenty one days post-operatively. There were no complications regarding fixation in both these patients. One patient left against medical advice post-operatively after one follow up appointment. Therefore, thirty seven (37) cases were included in this study. Clinical and roentgenographic follow up averaged 27.95 weeks (range 6-78 weeks). Hospitalization, which included patients with multiple injuries, averaged 4.5 weeks. All fractures healed. Early ambulation and functional recovery with low morbidity, high patient satisfaction and low cost, suggest that this procedure needs to be considered for the treatment of femoral shaft fractures.
