An audit of renal biopsies.
Rawal Med J Jan ;27(3):13-5.

This is an audit of renal biopsies performed at FFH, Rawalpindi, over a two-year period in patients presenting with an active urinary sediment. Renal biopsy is essential to make a definitive diagnosis of glomerular disease. The ,findings of a renal biopsy can influence management decisions in approximately =l0% of cases. 1 Chronic glomerulonephritis, in its various forms, is responsible for high global, figures of renal morbidity and mortality. The most common clinicopathologic glomerular syndrome in our patient population, was membranoproliferative GN presenting as non-nephrotic proteinuria rather than membranous GN, which is thought to be a more common histologic pattern, causing nephrotic proteinuria. Nephrotic proteinuria is uncommon in females. The males undergoing renal biopsy predominated in this cohort of patients (n=38). Most of the patients were younger. The presentation was notably earlier.
