Opacities in optical media to cause diminished vision.

Objective: To assess the eff ects of various Opacities in the Optical media causing deterioration in vision. Design: Prospective Study Sett ing and duration: Department of Ophthalmology, Hamdard University Hospital, Karachi from 21st June 2008 to 26th February, 2009. Methodology: 204 patients who visited the Outpatient Clinic of the Hamdard University Hospital, Karachi were included in this study. Various clinical appliances were applied to our patients. Th e demographic data and clinical fi ndings were recorded. Results: Male to female ratio was 1.63:1 with lens changes in the eyes. Cataract accounted for the single vast majority of causes for diminished vision at 83.8% while second was a group composed of corneal opacities (CO) at 10%. Conclusion: Cataract formation has been by far the most predominant factor of opacities in Optical Media also with the best prognosis as well.
