Copper sulfate poisoning is rare but important. A number of complications result from it. Gastrointestinal, hepatic, hematological, and renal complications are important of these and result from direct and indirect effects of copper sulfate. Treatment of copper sulfate poisoning although is mainly supportive consists of resuscitation, delaying or decreasing absorption, chelation therapy, and complication management. Copper Sulfate also called "Neela Thotha" exists as bright blue crystals in penta-hydrated form [CuSO4 5H 2O]. In agriculture practice, it is used as pesticide, and fungicide. It is also used in adhesive glue making, photography and dye industry.1 Except for South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka etc, Copper Sulfate poisoning is uncommon in the world.1,2,3 In these countries its ingestion is accidental or deliberate self-harm related.1,2,4 For efficient treatment of Copper Sulfate poisoning, it is mandatory that treating physicians should be well versed with this rare kind of poisoning. We managed a patient with Copper Sulfate poisoning recently who despite treatment succumbed to death.
