Bio efficacy and resistancy of different insecticides against malaria vector (an. stephens!) in district Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Background: Malaria is the common disease in rural area of Pakistan. In Pakistan both Malaria vectors An.stephensi and An.culicifaces are present. Vector control is important component to reduce malaria. Resistance development in anopheles mosquitoes was also produced. To know about resistance development, resistance/susceptibility test, status of anopheles mosquitoes against different groups of insecticides should be done on regular basis. Which should develop baseline data on resistance/susceptibility status of anopheles mosquitoes against different groups of insecticides? Present study was conducted to determine the bio efficacy and resistancy of vector species in district Bannu. Method: Mosquitoes were collected, identified and tested against different impregnated papers with 0.05%Deltamethrin, 4%DDT, 5%Malathion and 0.1%Bendiocarb according to WHO test protocol. This study was carried out during year 2013 in District Bannu. Results: According to WHO guideline insecticide resistance was determined at all five localities against 4% DDT. Similarly Malathion 5% test result showed resistance at three localities i.e. Fazal Sadiq mandew,Surrani, and Bannu city while at two localities (Bharat and Domel) required further confirmation. Deltamethrin 0.05% show susceptibility at three localities i.e. Fazal Sadiq mandew, Surrani and Bharat while at two localities(Domel and Bannu city) it require further confirmation. Bendiocarb 0.1% required further confirmation at Fazal Sadiq mandew, Domel and Bannu city while the remaining twolocalitiesSurrani and Bharat show resistance. Conclusion: Pyrethroide group of insecticide is still show high level effectivity against An. Stephensi while DDTwere high level resistant to Malaria Vector. The current study provide baseline information for monitoring resistance in Anopheles mosquitoes. Effective vector control tools are recommended to be applied for proper control of vector-borne diseases as the component of IVM strategy.
