Pak J Public Health Jan ;4(1):39-43.

Polio is a crippling disease results in paralysis and unfortunately no cure of the disease has yet been found except prevention through administration of two drops of OPV during routine EPI and SIAs. AJK is the only geographical area of Pakistan which has interrupted Polio virus transmission 14 years back, and maintained the epidemiological status since then. Keeping in view the current situation of Indigenous Polio Virus circulation in Pakistan a data was reviewed for last three years by a team comprised of Pathologists, Epidemiologists, Public Health Professional and a Biostatistician to asses a risk of Indigenous Wild Polio Virus introduction or any missing circulation. Considering the Indigenous Wild polio Virus circulation in KPK and Karachi and Environmental sample declared +ive in district Rawalpindi ,Lahore from where people travel to AJK (Pakistan) and vice versa. Risk assessment is done based on indicators of inhabitant's immunity , surveillance feature, and other dynamics e.g., high-risk population in the area specially people coming from the area having worst outbreak of Indigenous Wild Polio Virus (KPK,F A T A and Karachi) and sharing borders of districts having Environmental sample afrmed positive in 2014 (1) and steer the carrying out of risk alleviation process to keep Indigenous polio virus circulation interrupted in AJK (Pakistan) and enhance the surveillance sensitivity to detect Indigenous Wild Polio Virus if reintroduced in the area
