Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a silent pandemic, a major public health problem and leading cause of liver diseases globally. In the Middle East and Asia Pacic Region, Pakistan comes second after Egypt for highest Hepatitis C prevalence rates which accounts for around 4-5% of the population being infected. Only 37% countries have a written national strategy or plan for combatting viral hepatitis. This short commentary maps the prevailing situation of Hepatitis C in Pakistan using the WHO framework of health systems building blocks. It also identies the most pertinent challenges and enabling factors to strengthen the health system's response to curb the hepatitis epidemic.
