Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a silent pandemic, a major public health problem and leading cause of liver diseases globally. In the Middle East and Asia Pacic Region, Pakistan comes second after Egypt for highest Hepatitis C prevalence rates which accounts for around 4-5% of the population being infected. Only 37% countries have a written national strategy or plan for combatting viral hepatitis. This short commentary maps the prevailing situation of Hepatitis C in Pakistan using the WHO framework of health systems building blocks. It also identies the most pertinent challenges and enabling factors to strengthen the health system's response to curb the hepatitis epidemic.
