Rawal Med J Jan ;41(1):39-42.

Objective: To determine the frequencies of different benign and malignant focal hepatic lesions on Triphasic CT studies in patients referred with suspicion of hepatocellular carcinoma. Methodology: This descriptive cross sectional study was carried out at Department of Radiology, Capital Hospital, CDA, Islamabad and included 88 patients referred with suspicion of hepatocellular carcinoma. Out of these, 35 were hepatitis C positive and had chronic liver disease with irregular margins on CT scan. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results: Among 88 patients, 165 focal hepatic lesions (97 malignant and 68 benign) were detected. Hepatocellular carcinoma was most common in patients with chronic liver disease and hemangioma was most common among benign focal lesions. Conclusion: Triphasic CT scan enables detection of a wide range of focal hepatic lesions. Hepatocellular carcinoma was the most common focal hepatic lesion in patients with chronic liver disease.
