Percentage Occurrence and pattern of Degenerative Calcification of Lenses in Human Senile Cataract.

A combined study was carried out at Dow Medical College and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi, to find out the percentage occurrence and pattern of degenerative calcium deposition in 34 cases of human senile cataracts. Calcium deposition was found in 23.5% of cases, which was of mild type in 9%, moderate in 12% and marked in 3% of cases at cortical and cortico-nuclear junction of senile cataractous lenses. Ages of these cases ranged between 65 and 75 years.
