Frequency of complete heart block in acute inferior wall myocardial infarction and its relation with severe obstructive disease of the infarct related artery.
J Cardiovascular Dis Jan ;10(4):114-7.

Background: Background: Complete heart block (CHB) is a well known complication of acute inferior wall ST Background: elevation MI and indicates severe atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. This study was conducted to determine the frequency of CHB in acute inferior wall STEMI and frequency of severe coronary artery disease in these patients as compared to those without this complication. Methods: Methods: The study was conducted at Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore, Pakistan from August Methods: 20, 2011 to February 20, 2012. All patients with the diagnosis of acute inferior wall Myocardial Infarction . were enrolled. Patients were grouped on the basis of presence or absence of CHB as group A and group B respectively. All patients underwent coronary angiography on day 7 through10 after discharge from hospital. Angiographic findings in both groups were examined and compared. Results: Results: Out of 70 patients studied, 13 patients (18.6%) developed CHB. Severe coronary artery Results: disease in infarct related artery (RCA) was observed in 12 patients (92.3%) and 32 patients (56%) in patients with and without CHB respectively (p=0.015) Conclusion: Conclusion: About one fifth of the patients with acute inferior wall myocardial infarction develop Conclusion: CHB and they are more likely to have severe obstructive coronary artery disease in the infarct related artery.
