Association Of ABO blood groups with Ischemic Heart Disease and Its risk factors.
J Cardiovascular Dis Jan ;10(4):110-3.

Objective: Objective: To compare the distribution of ABO blood groups in patients with and without ischemic Objective: heart disease and in relation with different coronary risk factors. Materials & Methods: This comparative study included 125 consecutive ischemic heart disease (IHD) patients and an equal number of non- IHD respondents (total 250) and was conducted at Department of Cardiology, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore Pakistan from 5thSeptember 2011 to 29thDecember 2011. The distribution of ABO blood groups in IHD group was compared with the control group. Prevalence of different coronary risk factors was compared in both groups and in different blood groups. Results: Results: Out of 250 subjects, 148(59.2%) were males and 102(40.8%) were females. A+ (32% vs. Results: 19.2%) and AB+ (27.2% vs. 13%) groups were more commonly observed in ischemic heart disease group (P-value =0.003). Family history if IHD was found to be maximum in blood groups AB+ (52.9%) and A+ (52%) and hypertension in O+ (67.4%), A+ (65.6%) and AB+ (62.7%); p values being 0.034 and 0.046 respectively. Conclusion: Conclusion: There is a detectable difference in the distribution of ABO blood groups with ischemic Conclusion: heart disease itself and in relation to some of its risk factors. Key words: Key words: Ischemic heart disease, ABO blood groups, Coronary risk factors
