Frequency of significant atherosclerosis in patients having myocardial bridging and mean bridging percentage in pateints with and without atherosclerosis.
J Cardiovascular Dis Jan ;10(4):101-4.

Objectives: Objectives: To determine the frequency of significant coronary atherosclerosis in patients having Objectives: Myocardial Bridging and to compare mean bridging percentage in patients with and without atherosclerosis. Material and Method: Material and Method: This Cross sectional survey was conducted at Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Material and Method: Lahore from May 2012 to November 2012. Patients having myocardial bridging (>50%) on conventional coronary angiograms were included and presence or absence of atherosclerotic stenosis (e”50%) was noted. Patients were categorized as having both MB and significant atherosclerosis (Group A) or only MB (Group B). Bridging percentage was calculated and compared for patients with and without atherosclerosis. Results: Results: Eighty patients who fulfilled inclusion criteria were studied. Results: Mean age of patients with and without atherosclerosis was 49.5±11 and 51.4±8 respectively and Male: Female ratio was 1.9:1. Total 42 patients (52.5%) had atherosclerosis in addition to myocardial bridging and 38 (47.5%) had only myocardial bridging. Mean myocardial bridging percentage in patients having atherosclerosis in addition to myocardial bridging was 71±12 and it was 56.9±5 in patients having only myocardial bridging (pvalue 0.001). Left anterior descending artery was site of myocardial bridging in 96.2%. Mean Left ventricular ejection fraction for Group A was 52.14±8.42 while it was 59.08±3.45 for Group B (p=0.001) Conclusion: Conclusion: Atherosclerosis appears to be related to myocardial bridging and mean bridging percentage Conclusion: is significantly higher in patients having both myocardial bridging and atherosclerosis. Key Words: Atherosclerosis, Myocardial bridging, Mean bridging percentage
