Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;15(4):138-41.

An analysis of 200 cases of phacoemulsiflcatlon by stop and chop technique Is presented. All of the cases were operated on by anterior Timbal corneal incision. In 140 eyes posterior chamber Intraocular lens implantation was performed. Sixty eyes were operated on for extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) without intraocular lens Implantation. In 120 eyes the corneal wound was closed with one stitch of 10-0 monofilament nylon. In 80 eyes the corneal wound was left unstitched and stromal hydration was performed at the wound edges. Better postoperative visual acuity with minimum induced astigmatism was achieved compared to the conventional techniques. A few postoperative complications like posterior capsule rupture, Iris chewing, corneal edema etc were noted. Two cases with loss of nucleus into the vitreous were referred to a vitreoretinal surgeon for posterior vitrectomy.
