Effects of Xalatan (0.005% Latanoprost) in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma.

Purpose: To report the effects of topical latanoprost 0.005%, in three patients of primary open-angle glaucoma. Method: Detailed medical and ophthalmic history of the patients under observation was obtained. Detailed physical and ophthalmic examination was carried out. Investigations, such as complete urine examination, complete blood examination, and random blood sugar were carried out. In the ophthalmic examination, visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, fundus examination, Goldmann perimetry and applanation tonometry were performed. One drop of Xalatan was instilled in each eye in the evening. The cases were followed-up according to the following schedule: One day after starting treatment with Xalatan eye drops and then one week, two weeks, four weeks, eight, twelve, and sixteen weeks after treatment with Xalatan. On each visit detailed ophthalmic examination was carried out giving special attention to IOP, Iris pigmentation, hyperpigmentation of eyelashes, conjunctivitis, anterior uveitis, choroidal effusion, cystoid macular oedema, facial rash or other allergic manifestations. On each visit each patient was questioned about subjective symptoms such as any foreign body or stinging sensation, itching, burning, tearing or pain in the eye.
