Acute bacterial diarrheas in children.

45% population of Pakistan is under 14 with 18% under fi ve years. It has been seen that more than 50% of our general practioner work load in the community are young children, with diarrhoea being commonest ailment in summer months. Child mortality below 5 years is 55 per 1000 children while mortality with acute diarrhoea is around 20 per thousand with some improvement lately due to better hydration by use of ORS and public awareness. Majority of.these diarrhoeas are not of bacterial etiology needing antibiotics but these children are given different antibiotics before referral to our hospital. Anti-Amoebic drugs are given to majority of our children which may be equally harmf d causing more anorexia with metallic taste increasing malnutrition without any improvement in their suffering A study of 100 children was under taken over a period o1`2 years which is as follows
