Frequency, Types and Indications of Coronary Angiography in Patients with Coronary Artery Ectasia.

Objective: To determine the frequency of coronary artery ectasia and its types in patients undergoing coronary angiography Study design: Cross sectional survey Place and Duration: Department of Cardiology, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad Material and Methods: A total of 114 consecutive patients who were planned to undergo coronary angiography were enrolled from Department of Cardiology, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad after fulfilling the inclusion criteria. Results: One hundred and fourteen patients underwent coronary angiography after fulfilling the inclusion criteria. Mean age of the study population was 52.3 ±10.3 years, while mean age of the patients having CAE was 51.17±10.00 years. There were 81 (71%) males and 33 (29%) females in the study population. Frequency of CAE in the study population was 5.3%. 83% were males & 17% were female among them. Type 1 CAE was more prevalent than other three types in the study population. Conclusion: Frequency of CAE was high in our hospital based study. It was more prevalent in males in their 6th decades of life. Type 1 CAE was more prevalent in patients.
