Rawal Med J Jan ;42(3):341-3.

Objective: To determine effectiveness of task oriented training in improving upper limb function in post stroke patients. Methodology: This Randomized Control Trial was conducted from March 2015 to March2016 and included 43 post stroke patients. 22 patients were allocated in experimental group and 21 in control group by doing random sampling using coin toss method. Data were collected by using upper extremity items of motor assessment scale (MAS). One group received standard therapy for 4 weeks and the other group received additional task oriented training 2 hours daily for 6 weeks. 38 patients completed the study with 5 drop outs. After four weeks, data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Results: There was a significant improvement in all the 3 items of upper extremity part of MAS (P<0.001). Also, significant improvement was noted in the total score of upper extremity part of MAS with Mean±SD of 4.20±2.35 and 5.00±1.57 in control and experimental group, respectively that after intervention, improved to 5.65±2.70 in control and 11.61±2.19 in experimental group showing a significant difference in both groups (PË‚0.001). Conclusion: It is concluded that task oriented activities are very much effective for improving upper limb function after stroke when provided in subacute stage.
