Effect of hand arm bimanual intensive therapy including lower extremity in children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Hand Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy including lower extremity among children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy. Methodology: The data was collected from 30 children aged between 8-18 from Children hospital & Institute of Child health Lahore and Rising Sun Institute. Non probability Convenience Sampling was used. The period of the study was from May 2016 to October 2016. Bimanual therapy was applied for a total of 9 weeks 2 hours a day completing an average of 90 hours. ABILHAND-kids questionnaire for manual abilities and ABILICO-kids questionnaire for locomotor abilities were used to report the effect of HABIT-ILE in children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to compare the data pre and post bimanual intensive therapy. Results: Bimanual therapy including lower extremity had positive effect on manual and locomotor activities of children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy (P<0.05). Conclusion: HABIT-ILE appears to have positive effect on manual as well as locomotor abilities of children with bilateral spastic type of cerebral palsy.
