An Update On Reported Oral Health Complaints - A Study Done At Sir Syed Dental Hospital.

The objective of the present study was to find out the most common oral diseases in 979 patients attending the Oral diagnosis Department of the Dental Hospital of Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls, Karachi, Pakistan from 1st August 2016 to 31st October 2016. Males (413) and females (566) of age range from 8 to 75 year old were examined clinically. Carious teeth were the most common disease among all patients followed by diseases of the gingiva, BDRs, and missing teeth. The number of diseases such as carious teeth (35%), loose teeth (4.3%), gum diseases (6.5%), malocclusion (2%) were high in female patients whereas complaints of BDRs (6.2%), missing teeth (5.7%), impactions (1.7%), oral lesions (0.7%), fractured teeth (0.6%), prosthesis issues (1.5%) and loss of teeth surfaces (0.4%) were high in male patients. Statistical significant difference was observed in the diseases like carious teeth, BDRs, missing teeth, impactions, prosthesis issues between both genders (p<0.05). The occurrence of pain, problems with eating, chewing, smiling and communication due to missing, discolored or damaged teeth have a major impact on people's daily lives and well-being. Furthermore, oral diseases restrict activities, at school, at work and at home causing millions of school and work hours to be lost each year throughout the world.ยน
