Pak Oral Dental J Jan ;36(4):577-82.

This cross sectional study was carried out to audit the treatment outcome and standard of orthodontic treatment provided at Lahore medical dental college, Lahore. It was conducted from December 2015 to April, 2016. The study evaluated last 40 consecutively finished orthodontic cases using PAR index. These cases were treated by three Orthodontists who successfully acquired fellowship from College Of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan. The material consisted of pre- and post treatment casts and orthodontic files. Pre- and post-treatment PAR score was calculated for each patient. All patients who received comprehensive orthodontic treatment with good quality records were included in the study. Re-treatment cases were excluded. One investigator assessed all the components of the PAR Index. Descriptive statistics and Scheffe test were used to analyze the data. Records of 40 patients (35 females and 05 males) with mean age of 17± 5 years were evaluated for PAR score. The mean reduction in the PAR score was 17.85 points (76.19%). ‘‘Greatly improved’’ conditions were seen in 19 (47.5%) of patients while 20 (50%) accounted for the ‘‘improved category.’’ Only 1 (2.5%) belonged to the ‘‘worse or no different’’ group. Statistically significant differences were observed between three improvement groups. The results indicated an excellent improvement in malocclusion with patients being treated to a high standard and a great proportion of patients with a clear need for treatment.
