Pak Oral Dental J Jan ;36(4):556-9.

This study is based on the survey conducted among the dental practitioners of Karachi, Pakistan, in order to assess their knowledge regarding diagnosis and treatment modalities of oral sub mucous fibrosis. A self administered questionnaire was given to 200 general dental practitioners of Karachi. Data were assessed by SPSS 16 using chi-square test. The study uncovered that dental practitioners of Karachi had sufficient knowledge to diagnose oral sub mucous fibrosis based on history and clinical analysis and had acceptable attitude towards the habit breaking and prevention of the disease, yet they lack in practice and are unable to provide satisfactory treatment to the patient. They are also deficient in maintaining the follow up which holds immense importance due to malignant nature of the disease.
