Incidence and etiology of midfacial injuries vary with geographic region, socioeconomic status, culture, religion and era. The purpose of the study was to analyze etiology and localization of midfacial fractures treated at teaching hospital of University College of dentistry, The University of Lahore. The medical records of patients treated for midfacial fractures from February 2010 to January 2015 were analyzed for gender, age distribution, Cause of fractures, frequency and type of injury. The mean age of the patients was 32 years. The most frequent causes for midfacial injury were road traffic accidents (RTA) (78%), followed by interpersonal violence (11%), sports (5%), fall (2%) and other causes (4%). Among isolated midfacial fractures, zygomatic bone fractures were most common (36%) followed by maxillary bone fracture (23%). Isolated orbital floor fractures (4%) were found to be least among all types of facial fractures. Combination of midfacial fractures was the leading type of midfacial trauma (37%). This study revealed that the main cause of midfacial fractures was road traffic accident (RTA).
