Extensive Intraductal Component and Lymphatic Vessel Invasion as Pathologic Risk Factors in Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma of Breast.
Ann King Edward Med Uni Jan ;5(3,4):233-4.

Starting from April 1998 to March 1999, 161 lumpectomy specimens of breast tissue were analyzed. Age of the patient, history of previous fine needle aspiration and tru cut biopsy was recorded. Gross appearances were noted. and volume of the tissue was calculated. Out of 161 patients, 57 had infiltrating ductal carcinoma. A total of 57 patients (21.05%) had lymphatic vessel invasion. In patients younger than 40 years of age 36% patients had extensive intraductal component as compared to 18.75% of patients older than 40 years of age. Lymphatic vessel invasion was seen in 20% of patients younger than 40 and 21.88% of patients older than 40 years of age. It is concluded that the extensive intraductal component is much common in younger patients but the lymphatic vessel invasion is seen with equal frequency both in young and old patients.
