Oral hygiene habits among the complete denture wearer patients visiting the Isra dental college Hyderabad.

Objective of this study was to evaluate the hygiene methods, the age of denture usage and whether the patients received instruction or not concerning the cleaning of dentures and wearing or not wearing dentures during sleep timings. A cross sectional study was conducted in patients wearing complete dentures who came to Isra Dental College Hyderabad. All the selected patients were given a questionnaire for collection of data. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 16. A total of 185 edentulous patients were selected with a mean age of 56.3+ 8.14. Majority of the patients (49%) was using complete dentures for one to five year duration. There were 62% patients who received instructions from dentist.58% patients were using water and toothbrush to clean their dentures. 62% patients were soaking their dentures in water. 15% reported for cleaning only tongue and 11% reported for cleaning all areas of oral cavity. There was statistically significant association between the patients who received instruction by dentist and night denture wearers. It was concluded that water and toothbrush were the choice of substances for cleaning their dentures. Mostly the patients were cleansing their denture once a day and a few patients were cleaning other areas of oral cavity.
