Evaluation of hundred cases of Radial Keratotomy.
Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;52(1):57-61.

Approximately five percent of the general population including eleven million have myopia. These people can be helped by Radial Keratotomy (RK). We recently performed 100 (RK) at Combined Military Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from Aug. 1995 to Dee 1996 and report here the results of RK on 100 eyes of 57 patients, 21 males and 36 females, ranging in age from 18 to 42 years. The follow-up period was minimum of 06 months for all the patients. Based on the cycloplegic refraction, we divided the patients into three groups. Group A (21 eyes) with preoperative spherical equivalent myopia between -1.5 to-3.0 D, Group B (61 eyes) with myopia between -3.25 D to -6.0 D and Group C (18 eyes) with myopia between-6.25 to-8. OD. In Group A. 18 eyes (85.7%) were corrected within +/-1D, one eye (4.8%) over corrected and two (9.5%) under corrected. In Group B, 49 eyes (80.3%) were corrected within +/-1D, two eyes (3.3%) over corrected and 10 eyes (16.4%) under corrected. In Group C 11 eyes (61.1%) corrected within +/- 1D, 7 eyes (38.9%) under corrected. Change in astigmatism ranged from a decrease of-1.0 cylinder in the preexisting refractive error to an appearance of new - 1.75 D cylinder. Photophobia was seen in 29 eyes (29%). which persisted for 2 to 4 months. The post RK uncorrected VA was 6/12 in 87 eyes (87%) and 6/6 in 67.
