Outcome of Refractive Lens Extraction with IOL Implantation in High Myopia.
Al-Shifa J Ophthalmol Jan ;11(1):24-8.

Aims:To determine visual outcome of relatively clear lens extraction for correction of myopia and observe the complications of this surgery. Methods: The study included 20 eyes of patients diagnosed as myopia meeting the inclusion criteria. Prophylactic 3600 laser was applied to the peripheral retina of all the patients and phacoemulsification or lens aspiration was done by the same surgeon. Post-operative BCVA and slit lamp examination was done on each visit. Paired sample t-test was used to assess pre & post op VA. All statistical calculations were done using the SPSS 21.0 Results:There was a marked improvement in post op visual acuity with P value < 0.000 which is highly significant. Residual myopia was around -2.50 in all the cases. Conclusion:Lens extraction with posterior chamber IOL implantation for correction of high myopia has an excellent visual outcome.
