Stereo Acuity in Hyperopic patients and improvement in Stereo Acuity with spectacle correction of Hyperopia.
Al-Shifa J Ophthalmol Jan ;11(1):8-12.

Aims:To investigate effect of hyperopia on stereo acuity and to assess the stereo acuity with and without spectacle correction of hyperopia Methods:A hospital based cross sectional study.50 patients from Pediatric Department of Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital were evaluated from June 2013 to February 2014 after approval of the Institute’s ethical committee. Informed consent was taken from the patients. Subjects with diagnosis of hypermetropia having visual acuity 6/60 or better were included. Visual acuity was measured using standard Snellen acuity chart. Stereo acuity was measured using the titmus fly stereo test. Results:All patients had visual acuity less than 6/6 before correction. Best corrected visual acuity was 6/9 to 6/6. 14(28%) patients had low hyperopia, 18(36%) patients had moderate hyperopia and 18(36%) patients had high hyperopia. Out of total 50 patients 9(18%) had normal stereopsis, 22(44%) had moderately reduced stereopsis, 13 (26%) had highly reduced stereopsis, and 6(12%) had no stereopsis. After spectacle correction of hyperopia 33 patients (66%) showed improvement in stereo acuity while 17(34%) patients showed no improvement. Conclusion:Average stereopsis becomes worse with increase in hypermetropia and improves with correction of hypermetropia. Al-Shifa Journal of Ophthalmology
