Band Intrusion: A Rare Complication of Scleral Buckling.
Al-Shifa J Ophthalmol Jan ;10(2):111-4.

A 16 year old male patient presented in Eye OPD with a history of scleral buckling 5 years back in his left eye. On examination, the best corrected visual acuity in right eye was 6/60 and in left eye 6/36. Patient was having large corneal diameters (15mm and 16mm) and increased axial lengths (32.4 and 32.6mm). He was bilaterally aphakic with dislocated nucleus in the vitreous cavity. On right fundus examination, patient was having retinal detachment involving the macula. In Left eye, it was observed that sclearl band had intruded the globe and was seen in the vitreous cavity superiorly involving the superior two quadrants. Interestingly, adhesions had develpoed at the sight of band intrusion and globe was intact. He underwent right eye scleral buckling along with pars plana vitrectomy and dislocated nucleus was removed. No surgery was planed for left eye as the eye was quite and chances of globe rupture were very high.
