Imaging of Extra Adrenal Pheochromocytoma with I131 MIBG.

A case of extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma is reported in a teenage girl whose symptoms did not improve inspite of surgery, residual tumour was picked up with I-131 MIBG scan and was treated with radiotherapy.

CASE REPORT: A teenage girl was referred to Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (IRNUM) after the resection of an extra adrenal pheochromocytoma which was infiltrating the bladder wall. Her symptoms of headache and vertigo during straining for micturition was not improving inspite of surgery. A detailed history was obtained from the patient, there was no family history of any neuroendocrinal disorders. No significant history of any major ailment in the past could be obtained. She was anaemic and her blood pressure was 160/100 mmHg. Ophthalmoscopy showed grade II changes. There was a 10 inches healed operation scar in the hypogastrium. She was thoroughly investigated.
