Prevalance of Hepatits C in patients with Endstage Renal Disease before and during Hemodialysis.

Hepatitis C is the most frequent cause of liver disease in the dialysis patient. Hepatits C is a major cause of hepatitis during haemodialysis after the control of hepatitis B following vaccination. This study was carried out to find the incidence of hepatitis C. Infection tit patients of end stage renal disease before and during haemodialysis. Out of 190 patients with end stage renal disease, 47 (24.74%) tested positive for hepatitis C. All these patients were ssymptomatic as far as liver disease was concerned. Only 46 patients who were tested negative for hepatitis C opted to be dialyzed in the unit. At the end of second year, three male patients (7.69%) tested positive for Hepatitis C. At the end of 3rd year out of a total of 33 patients, 5 (15.15%) had acquired the infection. At the end of 4th year another 6 patients (23.07%) out of 26 had developed hepatitis C.
