Aetiology and Clinical Profile of Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Adults: a study at BVH, Bahawalpur.

Aim: To study the etiology and clinical profile of spontaneous Pneumothorax in adults. Methods: A prospective study of 120 consecutive patients who presented in Department of Pulmonology BVH, Bahawalpur from March 2013 to December 2013 with symptoms and signs suggestive of Spontaneous Pneumothorax who met the inclusion criteria were selected for the study. Results: A total 120 patients (100 cases of SSP and 20 cases of PSP) were included in the study. Age distribution showed a biphasic pattern with 1st peak in the 3rd decade and 2nd peak in the 5th decade. Overall male: female ratio was 5:1. The most common cause was found to be pulmonary tuberculosis (44%).
