Outcome of the Misgav Ladach Method of Cesarean Section.

Objective: To assess the outcome of the Misgav Ladach method of Caesarean Section. Setting: Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, Karachi. Design: A perspective, descriptive clinical controlled trial. Subjects: Eighty four patients underwent Misgav Ladach Method at Sobhraj Maternity Hospital between 1-11999 to 31-12-1999. Results: The mean operating time was 22.8 +/- 4.8 minutes. The mean blood loss 346.6 ± 122.9ml and the mean number of sutures used were 3.2 ± 0.48. The mean doses of injectable analgesia used were 3.45 ± 0.59 for a mean duration of 3.45 ± 4.7 hours. Patient started their oral intake after 8.5 +/- 1.4 hours of surgery and stepped out of bed after 16.5 ± 2.46 hours. Mean hospital stay 3.7 ± 2.74 days. Total number of post operative complications were 15/84 in which there were 6 wound infections, 4 endometritis, 3 PPH, 1 cystitis and 1 mild intestinal atony. Conclusion: This method is based on the principles of surgical minimalism and working in harmony with the body`s anatomy and physiology. The new technique is easy to learn and quick to perform. It is suitable for both planned and emergency operations (JPMA 53:197;2003).
