Relationship of Smoking and Myocardial Infarction among Male above 40 Years Checking Into Jinnah Hospital.

Objective: To find an association between smoking and the development of myocardial infarction in male patients above forty years of age presenting at the Cardiology department of Jinnah Hospital Lahore. Material and method: This is a case-control study. Results: Out of a total of 120 cases 66.67% (80) patients were smokers. Similarly, outof a total of 120 controls 35% (42) were found to be smokers. Odd Ratio is 3.71 Conclusion: With this study it was concluded that smoking is a risk factor for the development of myocardial infarction. This study showed that the patients with myocardial infarction are more likely to have past history of smoking.
