Synthetic Mesh Repair of inguinal hernia under Local Anaesthesia.

This study of 100 cases of inguinal hernias was performed in DHQ Hospital Swabi in a period of thirteen months. All patients were males. Forty percent were having indirect hernias and sixty percent direct hernias. Before surgery it was explained to all the patients that operation is to be done under local anaesthesia and the advantages were subsequently explained. In all cases polypropylene mesh was used. Post operative complications occurred were retention of urine in 4% of cases, scrotal oedema in 7% of the cases, wound infection in 1 %. Hospitalization time was minimum one day and maximum three days. Recurrence was 0%.
