Prevalence of anemia and its association with anthropometric indices in affluent male University students.

Objective: To study the prevalence of anemia and its association with anthropometric indicators. Methodology: This cross sectional study was performed for six months on 101 subjects. The complete blood picture (CBC) was performed at Department of Physiology and Medical laboratory Technology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Pakistan. Anthropometric indicators were measured and analyzed. Results: Overall prevalence of anemia was 34.65%. Waist circumference (WC), Hip circumference, BMI and WHtR (Waist to height ratio) were significantly less in anemic group (P=0.007, P=0.01, P= 0.03, P= 0.004). Conclusion: High prevalence of anemia is found in urbanized male students. Anthropometric indicators were significantly lower in anemic group than non anemic.
