Fear of fall among geriatric population.

Objective: To determine prevalence of fear of fall among older individuals. Methodology: It was a cross-sectional survey. Data were collected from 150 older adults by using convenient sampling technique through Modified Fall Efficacy Scale (MFES). Results: The mean age of the respondents was 69.33+-8.068 years. The prevalence of fear of fall was 80%. Increased age and females showed independent association with fear of fall. In terms of gender 57(76%) of men and 63(84%) of women reported fear of falling. 70(83.3%) older adults aged 65 and above exhibited high prevalence of fear of fall. Conclusion: Fear of falling was highly prevalent in our population. Female gender and higher age showed strong association with fear of fall. Screening programs may be useful in improving balance performance, general health and also in improving balance towards activities.
